For those of you with a sense of adventure and a desire to get off the beaten track, we have selected some intrepid travel guides and routes. These travel guides will often cover destinations that aren’t well connected or easily accessible, but boy are they worth the extra effort! From the lost cities of Peru, to the gems of ancient Egypt and the Nubian Empire, these routes will make you feel like you’re treading in the footsteps of past explorers.
Many of the routes selected in this section are in Asia, Africa and South America, given the size and the remoteness of these locations. However, there are also intrepid travel opportunities much closer to home in the more developed continents such as Europe and North America. In Europe the Balkans is a great location to break from the mainstream tourist locations and discover fascinating history, sights and fabulous landscapes. In North America, the wilderness of northern Canada and Alaska offer some great intrepid travel opportunities. Central America is also a great off the beaten track location with stunning wildlife, volcano’s, culture and cuisine. The options are limited only by how much time you have and your own sense of adventure!
