The Great Outdoors and Epic Landscapes

Destinations don’t get much more remote than New Zealand, nor do they get much more spectacular. Located over 1000 miles to the east of Australia in the Pacific Ocean,  it’s a long way from it’s closest neighbour. Fortunately for New Zealand’s residents, affectionately known as Kiwi’s, there’s a whole continents worth of attractions crammed into their country. From mountains to beaches and bird watching to bungee jumping, there’s a huge amount to discover. So while it might be a long journey to get to New Zealand, it’s certainly worth the effort.

New Zealand’s world class national parks are the countries prize asset. Home to fiords, mountains, volcanos, glaciers, glacial lakes and so much more, they’re a nature lovers dream. The parks also provide exceptional opportunities for adventure activities with excellent hiking, skiing and surfing in a whole host of locations. The parks also provide a protected habitat for New Zealand’s exceptional wildlife, including the endangered Kiwi. Outside of the national parks there’s plenty more to discover in New Zealand with vineyards, Maori cultural sites and interesting cities to explore.

Orientation

New Zealand is located in the South Pacific Ocean and is a very remote destination. It’s over 1000 miles to its closest neighbour Australia, which lies to the north west. New Zealand consists of two main islands known as the North Island and the South Island. The two islands are separated by the Cook Strait, a deep body of water that can only be crossed via ferry. Despite the countries remoteness, it’s not a small country and measures 1000 miles in length and up to 280 miles in width at it’s widest point.

Best Time to Visit New Zealand

The best time to visit New Zealand largely depends on which island you’ll be visiting and what you’ll be doing. New Zealand as a whole has a temperate climate with 4 distinct seasons. While winters are generally mild for the most part, snow does fall away from the coast and at altitude. The winter season is best if you’re intending to ski or snowboard in one of New Zealand’s 39 ski resorts. Outside of winter sports, the summer months that run from December through to March tend to be the best time to visit. Days are typically warm and dry, making it ideal for hiking, sightseeing or even hitting the beach. As a general rule, the South Island tends to see cooler weather throughout the year and experiences more rainfall and snow than the North Island.
