Best Time to Visit South Africa

The best time to visit South Africa is determined by where you’re planning to visit and what you’re planning to do. If you’re planning on a safari, it’s generally accepted that the cooler winter months of May to September are the best time for viewing animals in South Africa’s many safari parks, including Kruger National Park. If you’re planning a visit to Cape Town, the summer months of December through February are typically best. This period does coincide with the school holidays and peak season, so attractions are busier and hotel prices increase during this time. The garden route and southern coast area is generally best visited during February to April, when the weather is good but crowds have reduced. Hiking is best undertaken in the spring or autumn months.
